Writing songs can be one of two things. Extremely difficult or unbearably easy. There is no in between. Some days a song can roll off your tongue faster than you can write it down, and its euphoric feeling can last for days, there is no other drug like it. Sadly, this occurrence is rare for most. Other days well, most songwriters don’t always like to talk about the other days, but it is necessary for you to understand how the songwriter’s mind works.
I, as a songwriter, feel challenged by my own brain when it comes to writing a song. I’ll be inspired by something and get stuck right in the middle of writing. For hours and hours I sit, unaware of how to continue. Then I’ll get frustrated and throw it away. Once thrown away, I’ll feel guilty and compelled to finish the song, or at least keep what I have for another day. It’s this very schedule that songwriters go through in any other part of life. For example, if I can’t find a good outfit to wear, I’ll keep some clothes on the floor in case I’m inspired to piece something new together. That’s why my room is so messy, I don’t want to disrupt the schedule!

i know how you feel, there has been moments when i wrote a song or a sermon in 3 minutes, other times however take days and sometimes weeks.

Haha, ok so our rooms are messy because we don’t want to disrupt the schedule – never heard that one before
Maybe we should test it out on the ‘rents?

euphoric-Impressive! I tried to use context clue but i still couldn’t figured it out. I get it now though. But ya, you need a witness? I can testify to what you say about writting songs. I also find the best ones are the one you don’t try. Those are usualy not my words.
ps…I’m loving the consistency of your blog. Keep it up!
